When I initially wrote my core educational beliefs before really diving into the content of this class, the main gist was: "All students learn differently and each deserves the opportunity to be supported in their growth". While I wholeheartedly continue to focus on this belief, it has expanded since beginning this class and exploring multiple important issues over the past couple of weeks.
My intial statement falls a little flat on how to best support your students. Yes, it is important to provide a variety of approaches to learning and different outlets for students to express the learning that has been done, but how will students learn if they aren't engaged in the classroom? Making the material relevant to the student, enabling them to feel connected to the knowledge they are receiving is just as important as maintaining an environment that allows them to be successful academically.
Right now, right in this instant, I want to teach to really make an impact in students' lives. Whether that is being an adult they can look up to, helping them grow as a student, or inspiring a love-to-learn mindset, I find it essential that to be impactful in a student's life, you have to support their learning, as well as create student connections to learning.
