I've been busy wobbling over this project, trying to nail down what genre I am going to use, and finally, I think I have found it! I was thinking of doing an editorial, or a slam poem, or a mystery story... but I still felt like I wasn't delving into a new genre. I have decided to write a eulogy. I have rare experience of interacting with eulogies by reading them, much less writing.

I feel like the purpose of this project is truly to delve into a genre that is genuinely unfamiliar. Yes, the project is there for us to convey our ideas to readers, but I am going to be doing that whether I write a sonnet or a comic. The discovery of a genre (along with our inquiry), will teach us valuable techniques for when we are teachers and attempting to help our students explore unexpected reading/writing categories. So, my eulogy is completely unexplored territory for me, and will thus, provide great insight into what it will be like for my students when approaching an unfamiliar genre.

How will I approach this project through a eulogy, you might ask? Well, I plan to write a eulogy about the aspects of education that I am okay about leaving behind. I will mention that there have been great epiphanies about education during this time of reformation, but we need to move forward into the democratic classroom. My eulogy will be about saying goodbye to the things that don't work so well, while at the same time, welcoming new challenges and engagement within a classroom that supports student growth and helps them thrive.

My only hesitations about this genre, and incorporating my ideas, is the overall outlook of it. Is it kind of insensitive to past techniques? Does it take more of a negative approach to this project? Does it still count as a eulogy if I look towards the future?

I guess I will find out as I continue my inquiry.
